Job summary

NESO invites you to join a 12‑month Industrial Placement Programme as a Power System Engineer in Warwick or Wokingham. You’ll gain hands-on experience analysing power systems, supporting decarbonisation and shaping energy policy, with mentoring and industry exposure.

Salary is £26,000 per year, with 26 days holiday plus UK public holidays, a birthday day off, and a dedicated buddy to support you throughout the placement.

Qualifications

• On track for a minimum 2:2 in a relevant engineering or physics degree.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Interest in power systems and energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Run power system analysis to identify future challenges and solutions.
• Support development of new products and services to keep the grid stable as we decarbonise.
• Help shape national policies, codes and strategies that underpin the electricity system.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across Great Britain to help integrate new generation and demand.

Who we’re looking for

We’re Looking For Students Who Are

In your penultimate year of a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Maths

• On track for a minimum 2:2
• Problem‑solvers, team players and curious minds who want to play a part in delivering clean power for Great Britain
• Bonus if you’ve got a full UK driving licence, but it’s not essential
• You don’t need to know everything about the energy system already — just bring your enthusiasm, your fresh perspective, and your desire to learn.
