Job summary

National Energy System Operator (NESO) offers a 12-month Industrial Placement as a Power System Engineer in Warwick or Wokingham. You’ll gain hands-on experience, with mentoring and exposure to industry experts, while working to support Britain's net zero targets.

Join a team central to the UK's energy transition, balancing supply and demand and shaping national policies. The placement includes a buddy, extensive networking, and potential progression to our Graduate Programme.

Qualifications

• Penultimate year of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Maths.
• On track for a minimum 2:2.
• UK driving licence is a bonus (not essential).

Responsibilities

• Run power system analysis to identify future challenges and solutions.
• Support the development of new products and services to keep the grid stable as we decarbonise.
• Help shape national policies, codes and strategies underpinning the electricity system.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across Great Britain to help integrate new generation and demand.
• Contribute to high-profile publications that influence decision-makers across the energy sector.

• Start Date: June 2027
• Salary: £26,000
• 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays and your birthday!

Whether you're analysing how we balance supply and demand or supporting system-wide strategy, you'll be part of a team that is central to the UK's energy transition.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for students who are:

• In your penultimate year of a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Maths
• On track for a minimum 2:2
• Problem-solvers, team players and curious minds who want to play a part in delivering clean power for Great Britain
• Bonus if you've got a full UK driving licence, but it's not essential

You don't need to know everything about the energy system already - just bring your enthusiasm, your fresh perspective, and your desire to learn.
