Arup is offering an Industrial Internship in Flood Risk Management based in Birmingham or Cardiff. You will work on real projects from day one, learn from leaders, and build a professional network for when you graduate.

• For this opportunity, a degree in a water-related discipline such as Civil Engineering, Geography or Environmental Engineering is expected.
• Experience with coding languages, digital development and use of specialist software would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of flood risk, drainage and hydraulic modelling studies for a range of infrastructure and development projects.
• Assist with data collection, analysis and interpretation, including the use of GIS and modelling tools.
• Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, flood risk assessments and client presentations.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, sustainable flood risk management solutions.
• Participate in site visits, stakeholder engagement and project meetings while developing professional skills.

Restoration of the water environment and construction of flood alleviation schemes relies on the analysis and understanding of catchment and river systems and their impacts on society. We model these systems and make predictions about their behaviour to develop designs and make the business cases for their funding that will ultimately get them built. We work with the likes of the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales regularly to deliver these schemes.

Key areas we work in, include catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood risk management, natural flood management, asset management, and climate change studies. We are looking for candidates with a degree in a relevant water focused discipline; geography, science, engineering or equivalent.

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

Studying towards a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a relevant academic discipline such as Civil Engineering or Geography & Geospatial Science or Environmental Engineering.

Experience with coding languages, digital development and use of specialist software would be an advantage.
