Job summary

Fortescue Zero, within the Motorsport IT team in the United Kingdom, offers a 12‑month industrial placement (Sept 2027–Aug 2028) designed to give hands‑on experience supporting our factory and test operations.

You will work with IT and engineering professionals, providing first‑ and second‑line support, deploying devices, maintaining networks and cloud services, and helping with time‑critical vehicle tests, while gaining practical infrastructure knowledge and problem‑solving skills for a future

Qualifications

• Working towards a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Engineering or related subject.
• Interest in practical systems and infrastructure support.

Responsibilities

• Provide first- and second-line IT support for hardware, software, user accounts and connectivity issues.
• Deploy and maintain laptops, workstations, mobile devices and peripherals.
• Support core IT infrastructure, including networks, Wi‑Fi, servers, storage, virtualization and cloud services.
• Assist with IT systems for vehicle tests, rig sessions and time-critical activities.
• Monitor systems, investigate incidents, escalate where appropriate and document resolutions.
• Assist with joiners, movers and leavers, access permissions, software deployment, asset records and licence management.
• Support patching, backups, endpoint protection, cyber security controls and business continuity activities.
• Automate routine tasks and improve support processes through scripting, standardisation and appropriate tooling.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, setup guides and knowledge‑base articles.
• Working with colleagues and suppliers to deliver upgrades, installations and infrastructure changes with minimal disruption.

We operate a 12-month (September 2027 – August 2028) student placement programme within our Motorsport IT team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced IT and engineering professionals, gaining hands‑on experience of the technology that supports our factory and test team operations. You will be encouraged to ask questions, take ownership of practical tasks and develop your skills throughout the year. Many of our industrial placement students have gone on to secure graduate roles after completing their degree.

To be eligible for this industrial placement, you should be working towards a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Engineering or a related subject, with an interest in practical systems and infrastructure support.

What you will do

• Working as an integral part of the IT team and building effective relationships with factory, engineering and test team users.
• Providing first- and second-line support for hardware, software, user accounts and connectivity issues.
