Job summary

The University of Sheffield invites applications for a Knowledge Graph and Ontology Specialist within AMRC. You will design, build and maintain ontologies, apply 3D/4D modelling, and collaborate with engineers and data scientists to ensure FAIR semantic models.

We seek candidates with strong background in RDF(S)/OWL, Protégé or Sparx, experience with graph databases, and ability to translate domain knowledge into formal models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Philosophy (ontology focus) with 2-3 years of ontology experience.
• Working knowledge of upper ontologies and 4D vs 3D modelling in extending domain ontologies.
• Understanding of formal ontologies versus data dictionaries, vocabularies and taxonomies.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain formal, machine-readable ontologies (e.g., UML, RDF(S), SHACL, OWL).
• Apply 3D vs 4D data modelling to engineering and research entities.
• Document semantic technologies and distinguish them from taxonomies and data dictionaries.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists and end users to ensure FAIR semantic models.
• Lead ontology documentation, release notes, and dissemination of ontology approaches.
• Mentor research teams on knowledge graph development and semantic approaches.
