Industrial Disease Team Leader


Location: Birmingham
Salary: Up to £55,000
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Hybrid (typically 1 day per week in office)
Department: Industrial Disease Litigation NIHL

About the Firm:
Our client is a leading law firm working in industrial disease litigation, with a well-established reputation in handling complex and high-value claims. Following significant client wins and an increased volume of work, we are now looking to appoint an experienced Team Leader to join our expanding team.

Role Summary:
As Team Leader, you will manage a team of 8–10 file handlers and lawyers within the firm’s busy and growing Legacy (Industrial Disease) team. You will be responsible for the supervision, training and development of your team, ensuring delivery of high-quality legal services to clients in line with service level agreements (SLAs). Alongside leadership responsibilities, you will also manage a reduced personal caseload of complex litigated NIHL and legacy disease claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor and support a team of 8–10 lawyers and file handlers
  • Provide technical support and training to develop the team's capabilities
  • Maintain a reduced caseload of litigated industrial disease claims (primarily NIHL)
  • Plan and distribute team workloads effectively based on capability and capacity
  • Ensure high standards of quality, compliance and commercial efficiency
  • Monitor and meet client Management Information (MI) and reporting requirements
  • Act as the first point of contact for client concerns or complaints
  • Ensure effective communication within the team and across the wider department
  • Lead or contribute to process improvement projects and operational updates
  • Support and drive the technical development and career progression of team members

What our client is Looking For:
Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Experience handling defendant-side industrial disease claims, particularly NIHL
  • In-depth knowledge of the litigation process for industrial disease matters
  • Previous experience in team leadership or supervision
  • Strong ability to manage and develop others, including mentoring and training
  • Comfortable working to chargeable hour targets and handling high-volume work
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in case/claims management systems and MS Office (Excel, Word)

Desirable:

  • Experience with other disease types such as Mesothelioma, HAVS, or NIHL
  • Exposure to large quantum claims
  • Background in a defendant law firm is preferred; adaptable claimant-side experience will be considered
