Are you experienced in supporting children with additional needs or looking to start your career in a nurturing primary school environment?
GSL Education are seeking an Individual Needs Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Worthing. The school caters to children with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, and SEMH.
About the Role:
You’ll be working closely with one or two pupils who need extra help accessing learning. This could include supporting communication, behaviour regulation, sensory needs, or helping with emotional wellbeing. Every child is different, so you’ll be guided by the class teacher and SENCo to give personalised support that makes a real difference.
Responsibilities:
Offer 1:1 support tailored to individual learning or emotional needs
Encourage participation in class through positive reinforcement
Adapt activities and materials where needed
Use tools such as visual timetables, Now and Next boards, or sensory strategies
Help manage emotional regulation and social interaction
Liaise with teachers and parents to track progress
Provide personal care if required (training provided)
Requirements:
Experience in schools or supporting children with SEND
Calm, reliable, and proactive attitude
Confidence supporting behaviour or communication challenges
Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
