Our client in the global professional services industry is looking for a skilled and empathetic Individual Life Claims Specialistto join their dynamic team. In this role, the selected candidate will manage individual protection claims from initial notification through to final settlement. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for delivering excellent customer service and supporting vulnerable clients when they need it most. The successful candidate will provide fair, evidence-based claims decisions in line with policy terms, company philosophy, and industry best practices. Daily contact with customers, intermediaries and service providers, both in writing and over the phone, is a core part of the role and requires strong communication skills and a professional approach.

What you will do:

  • Manage individual protection claims from initial notification through to final settlement, within agreed authority limits and service standards.
  • Assess claims accurately in accordance with policy terms, conditions, and the client’s claim’s philosophy.
  • Communicate with members, clients, doctors, service providers, intermediaries, reinsurers and FOS as necessary to:
    • Gather required information related to claims and enquiries.
    • Explain claims processes, requirements, and outcomes clearly.
    • Resolve appeals and complaints in a professional and empathetic manner.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries and service providers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the claims function, actively challenging the status quo to drive innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Group Claim Assessors, Underwriting, Actuarial, and Client Services to enhance business knowledge and promote best practices.
Qualifications
  • Claims experience in Life insurance (not travel, motor or general insurance claims) is required.
  • Must have held claims authority limits in their current or previous role. This will enable the incumbent to underwrite claim forms and medical reports (including doctors’ reports), etc.
  • Experience with authority limits in life claims (CALS), income protection, or critical illness would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Proven experience in assessing claims for underwritten protection products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, with the capability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Committed to delivering exceptional customer service, demonstrating a proactive mindset and a solutions-oriented approach.
