Job Summary
Lead VAT, Construction Industry Scheme and other indirect tax matters for the Group. Provide indirect tax support to the business on transactions, and day to day activity helping to embed knowledge of VAT in the business.
Support and manage the VAT Compliance Manager and wider VAT team
1 day WFH / 4 days office

Main Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for all VAT advisory and compliance across the CWG group of companies including the monitoring of VAT processes embedded in the business. Managing and working closely with the VAT Manager and VAT team to ensure deadlines are met.
- Provision of proactive advice to the business on the VAT implications of all day-to-day leasing and transactional activity.
- Manage VAT elections & compliance material and ensure that internal accounting processes appropriately deal with VAT implications within the ERP system used by the business (Yardi).
- Ensure that VAT compliance processes are as efficient and as transparent as possible and continue the ongoing process automation as a central component of the development of our internal processes.
- Manage HMRC correspondence and maintain VAT property in-house data set, including for Capital Goods Scheme items.
- Work closely with the Director of Tax and Tax Senior Manager to run the wider tax team in a cohesive and collegiate manner. Provide VAT training and support to all relevant parts of the business and use this platform to promote the profile of the tax team across the business.
- Support the wider tax team with CIS reporting (low volume) and oversee process with occasional HMRC correspondence.
- Provide posting guidance to the Accounts Team where required, and ensure accounting systems are appropriately set-up to manage VAT reporting.
- Monitor and report to C-Suite on VAT trends across the business and ensure that VAT is taken into account when discussing cashflows, budgets and business plans
- Liaise with Legal teams to ensure we meet our Stamp Duty compliance obligations, including preparation of some SDLT returns and liaising with third party lawyers for more complex returns.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills
You will likely be operating as a Manager or Senior Manager in private practice or equivalent in industry. You will be suitably professionally or time qualified, with excellent technical skills. In addition you will possess the following characteristics:
- Some demonstrable Real Estate Indirect Tax experience is important.
- The role will suit a first move into industry or in-house move with experience managing a small team.
- CTA or ACA 5+year PQE is desirable.
- IT proficient and aware of trends in emerging technology in the tax and accounting space.
- Self-starter with excellent communication and organisational skills. The candidate will quickly develop into the point of indirect tax support for team leads across the business.
