Indirect Tax Accountant

As an Indirect Tax Accountant, you will be a key part of the group tax team. Your primary responsibility will be to lead VAT and indirect tax compliance for the group’s operations, minimizing exposure to costs and risks.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual VAT reporting, filing, and payment requirements.
- Work closely with the Group Head of Tax and finance business partners to manage worldwide VAT and indirect tax compliance.
- Be the key point of contact for all VAT and indirect tax issues.
- Facilitate continuous improvement of systems and processes to ensure compliance with legislation and deadlines, integrating tax considerations into process changes.
- Engage in system development and improvements to aid VAT compliance and filing.
- Manage the Group’s VAT exposure through regular reviews and VAT groupings.
- Provide project input to understand and manage VAT impacts.
- Report on VAT impacts, recoveries, and risks as part of financial forecasting and risk management.
- Monitor compliance related to overseas activities and online learning, developing and implementing necessary processes.
- Support the business on indirect tax requirements, risk management, and cross-border tax support.
- Assist in training and developing finance staff to recognize when specialist tax support is needed.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, HMRC, and sector stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Group Head of Tax on broader taxation issues.
- Perform other duties as appropriate for the role.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant and/or tax advisor with significant post-qualification experience in indirect tax compliance.
- Experience in system and process improvements.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, both face-to-face and hybrid.
- Self-motivated, responsible, with commercial awareness and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, solution-oriented, and supportive of team development.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax information clearly to non-specialists.
- Proficient in IT, especially Excel, and experienced with large ERP systems.
- Strong management, planning, and organizational skills.
