Role: Indirect Buyer

Department: Procurement

Company: CAF Rolling Stock

Location: Newport, Wales (Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Salary: GBP39,000 (GBP45,000 for a strong Senior Buyer)

Work Hours: Flexible start time ( Mon Thursday, 7:30 AM - 4 PM or 8 AM 4.30 PM, Friday 7.30AM 1PM)

Travel: Possible annual travel to Spain and regular supplier visits.

CAF Rolling Stock, a leading train manufacturer in the UK, is looking to strengthen its indirect procurement function as part of ongoing cost-saving initiatives. The business is seeking a skilled procurement professional to support sourcing activities, supplier management, and contract mobilisation.

This role contributes to refining procurement processes, facilitating supplier negotiations, and ensuring smooth contract execution. A successful candidate will bring resilience, strong stakeholder management, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment. There is also potential for career progression, allowing the individual to play a role in shaping procurement strategy and team development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement inbox and handle daily inquiries
  • Support supplier category management and sourcing initiatives
  • Conduct RFPs and assist with contract mobilisation
  • Negotiate with suppliers and help resolve disputes
  • Influence internal stakeholders to drive procurement objectives forward
  • Navigate complex supplier interactions with professionalism

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified (Mandatory)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Procurement experience, including data analysis skills
  • Strong negotiation, leadership, and supplier management capabilities
  • Commercially driven mindset
  • CIPS certification (Preferred but not required)

The Candidate:

  • Self-sufficient and capable of working independently without micromanagement
  • Outgoing and effective communicator with multiple stakeholders
  • Comfortable managing supplier relationships and working under pressure
