Job description

Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice | Dorset | Up to £80k | 1:10 Weekends!

An independent veterinary practice set in the stunning countryside of Dorset is looking for a small animal vet to join their friendly and progressive team.

About the Practice

Based in the beautiful area of Dorset serving communities across Wiltshire and Somerset, the practice operates from three well-established branches. The location offers the best of both worlds—quiet rural life with easy access to the coast and larger towns.

As an independent, vet-led practice, the team is committed to delivering high-quality, personalised care. Clinical freedom, close-knit team relationships, and strong community ties are central to how they work.

Flexibility is truly supported, whether that’s accommodating part-time hours, family commitments, or finding a location that suits your commute. The leadership team understands that when vets are well-supported, both clients and their pets benefit.

There’s a strong emphasis on wellbeing with social events planned. The out-of-hours rota is shared with a neighbouring practice, keeping the workload manageable and supported by a dedicated OOH nursing team.

Why Join?

  • Independent, non-corporate practice
  • Only 1:10 weekends for work-life balance!
  • Run by the vets who work there
  • Genuinely friendly, supportive team culture
  • Flexible working encouraged—part-time or full-time (4-day week) available
  • Clinical freedom and support to pursue areas of interest
  • Located in one of England’s most scenic regions
  • Access to countryside and coast
  • Strong focus on career development and wellbeing

The Role

  • Full-time (4-day week) or part-time position available
  • Shared on-call rota (1 in 12) with neighbouring practice
  • Dedicated nursing support for out-of-hours work
  • Varied and interesting caseload
  • Encouragement and funding for clinical progression
  • Admin time and breaks protected to support work-life balance

What’s on Offer

  • Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience
  • Private medical insurance
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Fully funded RCVS, VDS, and BSAVA memberships
  • Generous CPD allowance and structured support
  • Cycle to work scheme and green initiatives
  • Pension scheme
