Job description

Position Overview

The Independent Members of the FAW's Professional Game Advisory Committee will play a crucial role in advising and supporting the development of the elite game in Wales. The Commercial & Engagement Advisor will serve as an independent member of the Professional Football Advisory Board, offering strategic support, challenge, and specialist insight into the evolving commercial landscape of elite football. This role will be pivotal in advising on revenue generation, commercial expansion, brand positioning, and the optimisation of broadcast and media rights, ensuring the long-term commercial sustainability of Welsh domestic football.

Committee Terms of Reference

To offer the views of the Members and contribute to the strategic development of the elite game;

To have oversight of the implementation of strategy, strategic plans and work programmes;

To receive performance reports and monitoring of progress against strategic objectives; and

To have oversight of the management and development of the elite game structures and administration.

Key Responsibilities

Advice and guidance - Provide expert advice and recommendations on areas of expertise within elite football.

Strategic direction - Provide insight to FAW staff on the strategic direction for elite domestic football.

Constructive challenge - Provide the right degree of constructive challenge to the FAW staff teams, contributing to the FAW’s strategic direction through the agreement of corporate objectives and key performance indicators and tracking performance again them.

Collaboration - Work collaboratively with other committee members, FAW staff, and external partners to develop and implement effective plans, programmes and initiatives.

Monitoring and Evaluation - Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of activities within elite domestic football in Wales.

Strategic Insight - Provide expert advice on long-term commercial developments, including broadcast rights, sponsorship models, digital monetisation, and fan engagement.

Broadcasting Development - Advise on the development and optimisation of domestic and international broadcasting deals, including linear and OTT platforms. Support rights valuation, distribution models, market segmentation, and innovations in content packaging and delivery to maximise reach and revenue.

Brand & IP Development - Advise on the evolution of the domestic football brands, leveraging licensing, merchandising, and cross-industry collaborations to increase profile and awareness

Risk & Compliance Oversight - Offer independent oversight of the commercial risks tied to sponsorship and broadcasting deals, regulatory restrictions and reputational factors.

Stakeholder Engagement - Facilitate connections with media companies, agencies, broadcasters, and commercial rights holders.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Senior-level experience in commercial strategy, marketing, or business development within sport, media, entertainment, or global consumer brands. Direct experience working with or advising elite-level sport on commercial and media rights would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record in growing revenue and brand presence.
  • In-depth understanding of sports broadcasting rights and monetisation, including OTT platforms and digital content strategy.
  • Familiarity with sponsorship valuation, rights packaging, and distribution frameworks.
