About the job Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (IDVA) BAME

Purpose

To provide a high-quality, front-line service to high risk victims of domestic abuse by delivering a risk led response and ensuring victims and their children needsare at the center.

You will carry out a DASH risk assessment, support and safety planning with survivorsin a timely manner and refer high-risk cases to theMARAC andrepresenting survivors at MARAC meetings or other multi-agency meetingsand action planning alongside other agencies to improve survivor safety.
Main responsibilities

  • To carry out risk assessment and safety planning with survivors
  • Work with the client to provide a risk led pro-active, short to medium term crisis intervention service through individual safety planning and personal support.
  • Advocate on behalf of the client with both statutory and voluntary agencies, supporting them to access housing, civil remedies and the criminal justice system.
  • Support the empowerment of survivorsand assist them in recognising the signsand dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation, and help them regain control of their lives
  • To ensure that clear and accurate records are kept for all service users
  • To follow internal policy and procedures
  • Ensure that the safety of survivors and children is paramount by working within local safeguarding policies, procedures and protocols at all times
  • Work alongside survivors to maximize self-protective strategies to ensure stability, manage risk and establish wellbeing

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential demonstrable experience of working with women affected by domestic and sexual abuse

Essential a sound understanding of the practical, emotional, social and economic issues facing women and children affected by domestic violence

Essential knowledge of safeguarding for adults and children

Essential strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with challenging situations.

Experience of risk assessment and management and safety planning

Experience of working within a multi-agency framework
