About this role

This position is based in one of our Australia offices, with an exciting opportunity to relocate.

As part of the National Quality and Excellence Department, the Independence and Quality Manager will focus on applying independence requirements of professional standards by supporting and advising various business units within the firm.

Audit firm independence is critical and attracts attention from regulators, media, and the public, playing a vital role in safeguarding Grant Thornton's reputation.

The role involves ensuring an effective independence quality control framework, assisting partners and staff with policy application, maintaining compliance systems, providing training, and fostering consultation.

We seek a passionate, innovative individual to leverage their technical expertise across a broad range of areas to uphold the highest standards in quality and risk management.

Key responsibilities
  1. Advise on regulatory independence requirements related to non-audit services, personal independence, and business relationships, ensuring compliance with IESBA Code of Ethics/APES 110, SEC regulations, and the Corporations Act.
  2. Develop understanding of the firm’s service offerings to support compliance management and monitoring systems, including client and engagement acceptance, and conflict checks.
  3. Update independence policies, tools, guidance, and processes to align with global and local policies, incorporating best practices and innovative solutions.
  4. Design and deliver risk management and independence training, and participate in quality and independence monitoring programs and process improvements.
  5. Assist in preparing for external regulator inspections and global quality reviews.
  6. Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including Service Line Quality & Excellence teams and other independence teams across Grant Thornton.
  7. Exhibit attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Skills & experience

Ideal candidates will have experience in a client-facing role within a professional services firm, with a focus on quality standards. The role suits those who are agile, responsive, and innovative, with a passion for regulatory environments and technical expertise.

  • Experience in independence quality teams or audit from Big 4 or mid-tier firms.
  • Knowledge of independence rules and regulations, including APES 110, IESBA, Corporations Act 2001, EU PIE, and SEC rules.
  • Understanding of independence technology platforms for managing non-assurance services and client onboarding.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, research, analytical, and communication skills, with a self-driven attitude and relevant tertiary qualifications.

If you do not meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply and share your unique skills and attributes.
