Job summary

Fairmont Southampton is seeking an Income Auditor to ensure the accuracy and integrity of hotel revenue. The role reports to the Assistant Director, Finance & Business Support and collaborates with Front Office, F&B, Spa, Retail, Golf, Events and Finance to verify transactions and strengthen controls.

Responsibilities include auditing daily revenue, reconciling PMS data, cashiering and payment reconciliation, month-end support, and contributing to internal audits.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of accounting, auditing, income audit, revenue accounting, or finance experience preferred.
  • Associate's degree, diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Admin or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Audit daily revenue from all hotel departments (Rooms, F&B, Retail, Spa, Golf, Events, etc.).
  • Verify revenue postings and supporting documentation for accuracy.
  • Reconcile PMS reports with source documents and investigate discrepancies.
  • Audit room revenue, occupancy, no-shows, rate variances and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile cash receipts, card settlements, and other payment methods.
  • Support month-end close, audits, and internal controls improvements.

The Income Auditor reports to the Assistant Director, Finance & Business Support and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all hotel revenue transactions. This role is responsible for auditing daily revenue activity, verifying supporting documentation, reconciling revenues across all operating departments, and ensuring compliance with Accor, Fairmont, and hotel financial policies and procedures. The Income Auditor works closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Spa, Retail, Golf, Events, and Finance teams to identify discrepancies, strengthen internal controls, and ensure accurate financial reporting. The Income Auditor plays a critical role in safeguarding hotel assets and maintaining the integrity of financial information., Revenue Audit & Verification

Revenue Audit & Verification
  • Review and audit daily revenue transactions from all hotel operating departments, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Retail, Spa, Golf, Recreation, and Other Operating Departments.
  • Verify that all revenue has been properly recorded, posted, and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Audit room revenue, occupancy statistics, complimentary rooms, house use rooms, no-shows, and rate variances.
  • Reconcile daily revenue reports from the Property Management System (PMS) with supporting source documentation.
  • Ensure all guest charges, payments, adjustments, and rebates are accurate and properly authorized.
  • Identify, investigate, and report revenue discrepancies, exceptions, or unusual transactions.
Cashiering & Payment Reconciliation
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts, credit card transactions, electronic payments, and other methods of settlement.
  • Verify the accuracy of cashier closures and cash handling procedures.
  • Review and reconcile credit card settlements and investigate outstanding or rejected transactions.
  • Ensure all deposits are balanced and accounted for in accordance with hotel policies.
  • Coordinate with the General Cashier and operational departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor compliance with cash handling and payment processing procedures.
Financial Controls & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Accor, Fairmont, and hotel accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to established internal controls related to revenue recording and cash management.
  • Review discounts, rebates, refunds, voids, and paid-outs to ensure proper authorization.
  • Conduct routine audits of departmental revenue processes and controls.
  • Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Assist in safeguarding hotel assets through effective audit and compliance practices.
Reporting & Financial Analysis
  • Prepare and distribute daily revenue reports to hotel management.
  • Generate revenue summaries, exception reports, and operational statistics.
  • Analyze revenue trends and identify unusual variances requiring investigation.
  • Assist with the preparation of month-end revenue reconciliations and reporting schedules.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting activities by providing accurate revenue information.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support operational decision-making.
Month-End & Audit Support
  • Assist with month-end closing activities related to revenue and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation as required.
  • Reconcile revenue-related balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing revenue reports and supporting records.
  • Ensure all audit documentation is complete, accurate, and readily accessible.
  • Participate in periodic financial reviews and compliance assessments.
Systems Administration & Process Improvement
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of financial and operational reporting systems.
  • Support testing and implementation of system enhancements, upgrades, and new processes.
  • Help develop and improve audit procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure proper system interfaces between PMS, POS, and accounting applications.
  • Report system issues that may impact revenue recognition or financial reporting.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve controls, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Work closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Events, Retail, Spa, Golf, and other departments to resolve discrepancies and improve compliance.
  • Provide guidance to operational teams regarding revenue procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Support departmental leaders in understanding audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Foster positive working relationships across the hotel to strengthen financial controls.
  • Contribute to Finance team projects and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

  • Previous experience working with hotel revenue systems, night audit processes, or operational accounting functions preferred.
  • Experience reconciling financial data and investigating discrepancies.
  • Luxury resort, multi-outlet hospitality, or large hotel experience is considered an asset.
Education
  • Associate's degree, diploma, or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
Competencies, Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, revenue recognition, and internal control practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with hotel systems such as Opera, Opera Cloud, SUN Systems, Point-of-Sale systems, and related financial applications preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations and revenue-generating departments.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of financial information accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
