Job Description:

About the Role

Are you passionate about helping children with special educational needs (SEN) thrive? We are looking for a dedicated Inclusive Learning Assistant to join a welcoming special needs school in Birmingham on a long-term basis.

This full-time role is perfect for someone with at least two years of experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as autism (ASD), ADHD, moderate learning difficulties (MLD), or severe learning difficulties (SLD).

What makes this school special is its strong sense of community, excellent support network, and genuine focus on staff development. If you’re looking to make a real difference every day, this is the opportunity for you.

Why Join This School?

By joining this supportive and inclusive environment, you’ll benefit from:

  • A competitive daily rate with SEN allowance
  • Ongoing guidance from the school’s experienced SENCO
  • A collaborative team of caring teachers and assistants
  • A wide range of free CPD opportunities to enhance your skills
  • Full support from our expert education consultants

Moreover, you’ll have access to tailored training and development, helping you grow professionally in a role that truly matters.

What Will You Be Doing?

As an Inclusive Learning Assistant, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring Safety: Provide consistent, vigilant supervision—especially when managing behaviour—to maintain a safe and secure learning environment
  • Building Relationships: Establish a strong, trusting connection with the pupil to foster engagement and emotional wellbeing
  • Supporting Sensory Needs: Assist the child in the sensory room to help them regulate and remain focused throughout the day
  • Encouraging Physical Activity: Organise and support daily outdoor activities to promote health and wellbeing

In addition, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver consistent, effective SEN strategies across the classroom.

What Do You Need to Apply?

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Previous experience working in a SEN setting (minimum 2 years)
  • Relevant qualifications or a strong background in education or care
  • Experience with PECS and/or Makaton
  • Confidence supporting children with complex needs such as PMLD, SLD, MLD, and ASD
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate
  • Two recent school-based references
  • Valid photo ID (passport or driving licence)
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
