Job summary

Arriva Group is inviting graduates to join its two-year Trainee Solicitor programme in Sunderland. You’ll train in our in-house Legal team, rotating through seats and gaining hands-on experience across regulatory, commercial and risk areas.

The role is full-time and hybrid, with mandatory in-office days. You’ll receive structured learning, mentoring from senior solicitors and regular feedback as you work toward qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Qualifications

• Degree (2:1) preferred for eligibility.
• Must have passed SQE1 and SQE2 before programme start.
• Right to work in the UK permanently.
• Availability to join the programme in September 2027.
• Willingness to travel as part of the programme.

Responsibilities

• Two-year training contract with structured placements across the legal function.
• Gains hands-on experience across a range of legal specialisms, supervised by qualified solicitors.
• Support operational teams, commercial growth projects, regulatory compliance, and company secretarial matters.
• Supervision, feedback, and progress reviews mapped to the SRA Competence standards.
• Participate in a learning programme covering legal skills, ethics, and commercial awareness.
