Job description

A highly skilled and motivated Tax Manager is sought to join this small focused team. This role is pivotal in managing the corporation tax affairs of the group and supporting the Group Tax Manager. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with corporate tax legislation, oversee external reporting of the group's tax position, minimise UK tax liability, and forecast future tax liabilities.

With significant new investment pledges secured, this role will involve the successful candidate in a number of exciting projects from an advisory angle, providing strategic tax guidance across major infrastructure developments and regulatory initiatives. This is a hybrid position requiring office presence once every fortnight, typically on a flexible basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead negotiations with HMRC to secure agreement of tax computations and resolve technical queries
  • Maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliation processes for every UK company within the group structure
  • Coordinate with external auditors to agree half-year and year-end tax charges for both group and individual companies, ensuring technical accuracy across consolidated positions
  • Conduct technical reviews of all tax computations prepared by the department, identifying advanced tax reduction opportunities prior to submission
  • Design and implement comprehensive tax computation frameworks and work schedules for Tax Accountant to ensure all computations are submitted within HMRC statutory limits, incorporating advanced compliance automation tools
  • Develop comprehensive tax liability forecasting models for the entire group for inclusion in Board reporting
  • Manage complex HMRC correspondence on corporate tax matters, including dispute resolution and technical interpretations
  • Optimise tax efficiency through strategic claims and elections management to minimise overall tax liabilities
  • Deliver strategic direction and technical tax expertise to Capital Allowances team on complex infrastructure projects
  • Execute detailed reconciliation of tax charges and payments across Shareholder Model and corporate models to Group tax Model
  • Complete comprehensive tax sections of annual returns and periodic reviews, ensuring alignment with sector-specific requirements
  • Ensure statutory compliance frameworks are maintained and deadlines are met across all corporate entities
  • Provide expert guidance to the capital allowances team, implementing sophisticated strategies to maximise available reliefs and establish robust procedures
  • Implement sophisticated tax compliance technologies and establish best-practice procedures
  • Undertake comprehensive technical reviews of the Group's Tax Models, ensuring accuracy and compliance

Ideal requirements and attributes:

  • Chartered Tax Adviser qualification (CTA/ATT) or substantial equivalent professional experience with advanced technical competency. Candidates from large accountancy practice firms with extensive exposure to large corporate clients will also be considered
  • Comprehensive experience and technical mastery of Corporate Tax legislation, including contemporary reforms and evolving regulations
  • Expert-level proficiency in financial systems integration and advanced spreadsheet/database analytical techniques
  • Robust analytical skills to interpret intricate financial data with meticulous attention to technical precision
  • Outstanding communication and presentation capabilities with aptitude to convey complex technical concepts to executive-level stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate autonomously and strategically manage multifaceted workloads
  • Highly desirable: Experience with Pillar 2 global minimum tax regulations and implementation
  • Highly desirable: Knowledge of safe harbours provisions and their practical application in corporate environments
  • Background in capital-intensive industries or similar complex corporate structures would be beneficial
