Job description

Your new company
An exciting new in-house job has arisen for a Commercial Counsel to join our energy and utilities client as a strategic member of their in-house legal function in South Wales. This role will be wide-ranging, supporting the General Counsel by providing a broad range of commercial advice to senior stakeholders across the business. You must be able to travel to their offices in Newport; however, you will also be able to work flexibly from home for part of the week if desired.

Your new role
You will lead on drafting and negotiating commercial, IT, and cyber contracts and agreements and be able to provide advice on data protection and protecting intellectual property rights. You will provide quality and timely legal advice and support to a range of stakeholders within this growing business. You will have responsibility for managing and updating the businesses' standard commercial documentation and help ensure the business complies with sector-specific regulations, ensuring risk mitigation support in all key business functions.

What you'll need to succeed
Our client is looking for a UK qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 2+ years PQE, either with experience gained in-house or at a high-quality national or regional law firm with exposure to advising clients in the utilities, energy, and/or technology sectors. You will be a strong technical lawyer with a solid foundation in commercial contracts, ideally with knowledge of managing large-scale IT and/or cyber projects.

You will be confident handling your own caseload of commercial work and supporting your wider team.

What you'll get in return
This is a rare role within the South Wales and Southwest markets to join this exciting and highly regarded business offering hybrid and flexible working arrangements. The benefits on offer are very good, with an excellent bonus and pension contribution.

Working closely with the General Counsel and wider team, you will be at the decision-making heart of this business and able to make your mark in shaping its legal function for the future.

What you need to do now
If you are interested in applying for this position, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV or call us now. If this job isn't quite right for you but you are looking for a new role, please contact us in complete confidence at Hays.

We would expect a lawyer with the given PQE to have gained the level of experience required, but this does not preclude applications from those with more or less PQE.
