Job description

Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location:Chingford, Essex
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Days)

Salary & Benefits Package

  • Base Salary: £37,260 (starting at 90% of reference point – some flexibility available)
  • Allowances:
    • LV Authorised Person: £1,500
    • HV Authorised Person: £2,000
  • Benefits Package (8%): £2,980
  • On-Call & Overtime: Approx. £8,000 annually after initial 6 months (based on site familiarity)
  • Performance Bonus (10%): £3,726

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks using the Planon Intelligent Work Management System (IWMS).
  • Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance issues assigned via the IWMS.
  • Accurately update records of both planned and reactive maintenance within the IWMS.
  • Attend engineering faults, prioritising response and resolution to maintain safe working environments and reduce downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance across critical, essential, and non-essential systems, including:
    • HVAC
    • Electrical
    • Public Health
    • Fire Protection
    • Other general building engineering systems
  • Proactively suggest improvements and innovations to enhance maintenance practices.
  • Carry out statutory testing of life safety systems and other critical assets as directed.
  • Conduct measurements and surveys in both office and plant areas as required.
  • Assist with the statutory testing of Life Safety systems across the Debden site.
  • Support specialist OEM contractors during scheduled and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Act as an Authorised Person (HV/LV – Electrical/Mechanical) to support 24/7 site operations, adhering to the Bank’s Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
  • Complete required annual training and meet performance objectives.
  • Promote a strong Health & Safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety standards and risk assessments.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service and service level agreement (SLA) adherence.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-focused working environment.
  • Participate in the on-call technical support rota for incident response at Debden.
  • Take part in engineering system incident management and recovery drills as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualifications:
    • Minimum City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering field
    • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent certification
  • Clearance: Must be eligible for SC Security Vetting (provided by the Bank)
  • Experience:
    • Proficient in using IWMS and mobile handheld HMI tools
    • Skilled in operation and maintenance of:
      • HVAC
      • BMS (Building Management Systems)
      • Electrical systems
      • Public Health systems
      • Life Safety systems
    • Experience working under defined Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
  • Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Sound decision-making based on defined procedures and continuous improvement
    • Effective information sharing and reporting
    • Team player, contributing to shared goals and collaborative outcomes
