Job summary

A global law firm is seeking a General Risk Lawyer for a 12-month maternity cover role in London. The ideal candidate is an England & Wales qualified lawyer with at least two years of legal compliance experience, familiar with the SRA Handbook. You will assist with various regulatory queries, develop policies, and ensure compliance across jurisdictions. The position offers hybrid working with three days in the office and two days from home.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years' legal compliance experience in an international firm.
  • Ability to draft and review policies, procedures, and contracts.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of contract law and tort.
  • General knowledge of anti-money laundering and compliance regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily queries about SRA Code and professional standards.
  • Identify new or changed regulatory requirements affecting operations.
  • Develop and maintain firm’s policies and processes.
  • Advise on complex conflict-related issues.

Overview

THE FIRM A sector focused global law firm. THE ROLE Working for the Risk & Compliance Partner based in the London office on a c 12 month contract maternity cover basis. Hybrid working is available, 3 days in office + 2 days WFH. The Department works closely with the firm's General Counsel who is also the COLP and MLRO, as well as the Firm's PI Partner and others specialising in areas such as sanctions and data protection. A general risk lawyer is sought to support the Risk & Compliance Partner, Head of Legal Risk, and the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) in relation to all aspects of their roles, worldwide. The role will involve:

  • Assisting the Partner and COLP with the numerous daily queries which arise regarding the SRA Code, professional standards and best practice, ethics, data protection, supplier contracts, firm and third party terms and conditions and conflicts
  • Identifying new or changed regulatory requirements and legal obligations that have an impact on the operations of the firm
  • Developing and maintaining the firm\'s policies, systems and processes
  • Analysing conflict reports and advising on complex conflict-related issues
  • Writing and amending terms of engagement with clients in all the jurisdictions in which the firm operates
  • Writing and amending terms of engagement with counsel, foreign lawyers and experts
  • Keeping registers and monitoring compliance
  • Resolving escalated conflicts queries, including US conflicts rules
About You

An England & Wales qualified lawyer with at least two years\' legal compliance experience in an international firm, including dealing with confidentiality and ethics. You will have familiarity with the SRA Handbook, especially the Code of Conduct. Excellent written legal skills, including the ability to draft and review policies, procedures, terms of engagement and contracts with third parties. Up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law and procedure, especially contract and tort. General knowledge of data protection, anti-money laundering, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, corporate tax evasion and anti-modern slavery rules and application.
