In-Custody Case Worker
Salary: £27,783 pa plus benefits
Location: HMP Oakwood
Contract: Permanent

Rebuilding your life after a custodial sentence is one of the toughest challenges a person can face. But with the right support, it's possible. We're looking for a dedicated Case Worker to join our team—someone with a rare mix of compassion, resilience, organization, and flexibility. This role is for someone who understands that rehabilitation isn't just about offering advice; it's about actively supporting someone on their journey.

About the Role:

In this role, you'll work within the prison, providing one-to-one support to a caseload of participants as they prepare for release or parole. As a key member of a dedicated team, you'll help individuals overcome barriers, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward rehabilitation.

This is a demanding yet rewarding role. You'll work in a challenging environment with individuals who have complex needs and may be hesitant to engage. However, helping someone break the cycle and take real steps toward transforming their life can be life-changing—for them and for you.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Relationship Building: Foster genuine, trusting, and non-judgemental relationships with participants, creating a safe space for personal growth.
  • One-to-One Support: Set and review goals, ensuring accurate and timely recording of progress.
  • Action Planning: Develop detailed plans to identify needs and barriers, supporting participants' transition.
  • Caseload Management: Manage multiple individuals, balancing needs and administrative tasks.
  • Quality Recording: Maintain thorough, up-to-date records on our IT system.
  • Working to KPIs: Measure success through progression, engagement, enrolment, pre-release planning, and referrals.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Communication Skills: Ability to engage, motivate, persuade, and listen to build strong connections.
  • Safeguarding Awareness: Ability to identify risks and support complex individuals, with full backing from the team.
  • IT and Administrative Skills: Keep meticulous records to track progress and interventions.
  • Resilience: Commitment and perseverance in a challenging environment.

What We Offer:

Our benefits package supports your personal and professional wellbeing, including:

  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with options to trade for more.
  • 24/7 EAP support, including 6 free counselling sessions.
  • Private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Up to 2 days of volunteering annually.
  • Eyecare vouchers, discounts via Perks at Work, cycle-to-work scheme, travel season ticket loan, long service awards, and Salary Finance options.

We welcome applications from those with lived experience. This role requires an enhanced Level 1 DBS check. While waiting for background checks, you'll have opportunities to shadow colleagues and learn at your own pace.
