Job description

In-Custody Case Worker

Salary: £26,460 Pro Rata (22.5 hours over 3 days, £16,668 per annum)

Location: HMP Dovegate

Contract: Part-Time Permanent

Rebuilding your life after a custodial sentence is one of the toughest challenges a person can face. But with the right support, it's possible. We're looking for a dedicated Case Worker to join our team—someone with a rare mix of compassion, resilience, organization, and flexibility. This role is for individuals who understand that rehabilitation isn't just about offering advice; it's about actively supporting someone on their journey.

About the Role:

In this role, you'll work within the prison, providing one-to-one support to a caseload of participants as they prepare for release or parole. As a key team member, you'll help individuals overcome barriers, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward rehabilitation. This is a demanding yet deeply rewarding role, working in a challenging environment with individuals who have complex needs and may be hesitant to engage. When you help someone break the cycle and make real life changes, the impact is life-changing—for them and for you.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Relationship Building: Foster genuine, trusting, and non-judgemental relationships with participants, creating a safe space for personal growth.
  • One-to-One Support: Set and review goals, ensuring accurate and timely recording of progress.
  • Action Planning: Develop detailed action plans to identify needs and barriers, and support their transition.
  • Caseload Management: Manage multiple individuals, balancing their needs while handling administrative tasks.
  • Quality Recording: Keep thorough, up-to-date records of all interactions on our IT system.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Communication Skills: Ability to engage, motivate, persuade, and listen to build strong connections.
  • Safeguarding Awareness: Ability to identify safeguarding risks and support individuals through challenging times.
  • IT and Administrative Skills: Keep meticulous records to measure progress and ensure effective interventions.
  • Resilience: Stay committed and see things through despite challenges.
What We Offer:
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with options to trade for more.
  • EAP Support program, including 6 free counseling sessions.
  • Private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Up to 2 days of community volunteering annually.
  • Eyecare vouchers, discounts via Perks at Work, Cycle to Work scheme, travel season ticket loan, long service awards, and Salary Finance options.
  • Opportunities to purchase additional benefits like critical illness and dental insurance.

Note: This role requires an enhanced Level 1 DBS check. While waiting for background checks, you'll have opportunities to shadow colleagues and learn at your own pace.
