At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Our Water Quality and Environment team have an opportunity for you to join as our newRegulatory Improvement Manager.

In your new role, you’ll be responsible for delivering the improvement programme for our Environmental Regulation and Policy team. The role will work on complex investigations, assess organisational performance against regulatory requirements and provide strategic advice.

You’ll be delivering change through scrutiny and investigation. Turning insight into actionable recommendations. And helping the environment by understanding where risk lies. Your outputs will fuel the team’s thought leadership, interpretations of changing legislation and help influence business decisions to support ongoing compliance and environmental performance.

Additionally, you’ll be expected to build on our existing activities, developing and embedding a change programme to deliver our ambitions and handle the complete programme delivery lifecycle.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • Sourcing industry insights and integrating them into a structured view of regulatory risk.
  • Creating risk insights of all wastewater sites using multiple data sources, that integrates novel and future regulatory changes.
  • Working with other WQ&E regulatory teams to develop a centralised area for data sources that provides a regulatory ‘one version of the truth’ – ensuring the flexibility of reporting utilising native Microsoft platforms and approaching our data from a regulatory perspective to help utilise what we have in a more meaningful way.
  • Take learnings from internal and external regulatory investigations and package them in such a way that other teams can deliver relevant improvements.

You’ll be based at our Headquarters in Coventry. You’ll work within our Environmental Regulations and Policy Team. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week.

HOW WE WORK

You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive and why for this role you’ll usually find us in the office during our working hours.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re seeking our new Regulatory Improvement Manager to be comfortable identifying and managing the key strategic risks and issues facing the programme.

To be successful, it’s expected that you’ll have a strong regulatory background, with the ability to communicate with people of levels, including regulators. You’ll have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw conclusions from complex data and regulatory information then clearly communicate them in writing. You’ll also have experience in delivering and embedding change while delivering tactical improvement programmes. You may not have experience in the water industry and for highly capable people with a curious mindset this would be an excellent introductory opportunity.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude we want to talk to you too.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We’re looking for people who want to get involved, be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN

It’s not just a job; it’s a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award ‑ winning training to help you reach your potential. You’ll also contribute to the environment and community. Some of our benefits include:

  • Salary of £50,000 - £60,000
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £2,250 based on company performance and subject to eligibility)

  • 10% monthly discount with Busy Bees Nurseries and one-week free childcare
