Job summary

ABB in the UK is seeking a Local Trade Compliance Officer to manage import customs clearance across three divisions from our Daresbury-based site, in a hybrid role with at least one day in the office.

You will lead the AU Import Team, coordinate with brokers, HMRC and freight providers, review declarations for UK compliance, and drive continuous improvement through KPI tracking and documentation discipline.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience processing import customs clearance requests.
• Experience with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and HMRC on import activities.
• Proficiency using ABB's Esker platform to process clearance requests and produce reports.
• Strong understanding of customs procedures, import documentation, and trade compliance requirements.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and coordinate activities across a team environment.
• Excellent attention to detail with high accuracy in data and documentation management.
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience leading or developing team members is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate day-to-day import customs clearance activities across three AU divisions.
• Process clearance requests through ABB's Esker platform and generate reports.
• Act as primary contact for customs brokers, freight providers, and HMRC.
• Review and validate customs declarations for UK compliance.
• Audit broker activities including entries, invoicing, record retention, and compliance.
• Maintain accurate customs records and ensure documentation archival per requirements.
• Monitor broker performance against KPIs and drive improvements.
• Lead, support, and develop AU Import Team while prioritising workloads.
