Job summary

Torbay Council is seeking a Social Worker (Assessment & Intervention) to join the Children’s Services team in Torbay. The role focuses on safeguarding, assessment, care planning and court report preparation within PLO and care proceedings, reporting to the Team Manager.

The post is permanent and based in Torbay with a clear career development path. The team offers supportive supervision, a practical workload and opportunities to contribute to policy development.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to demonstrate skills in mediation, negotiation and problem solving.
• Able to assess situations with clarity and sensitivity and act professionally in crisis situations.
• Ability to implement anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of work.
• Ability to mentor others that upholds and promotes the ethical principles and values that guide professional practice and thereby ensures compliance with policies.

Responsibilities

• You’ll work with children, young people and families where there are significant safeguarding concerns, leading work through the Public Law Outline (PLO) and care proceedings.
• You’ll undertake assessments, develop care plans, prepare court reports and work closely with partner agencies to safeguard children and create lasting change.
