Job summary

DrPA Secure is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in a secure prison environment, delivering high-quality primary care to a diverse patient group.

You will manage chronic and acute conditions, contribute to safeguarding, and work with nursing and mental health professionals to ensure continuity of care within a challenging but rewarding setting.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified GP with current GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Performers list registration.
• Experience in primary care with sound clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and healthcare delivery in secure environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience working in prison healthcare, secure units, or with vulnerable populations.
• Additional qualifications in substance misuse, mental health, or sexual health.
• Knowledge of relevant NHS and prison healthcare policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide full GP services including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
• Manage chronic diseases, acute presentations, and mental health conditions.
• Contribute to the management of substance misuse and detox pathways.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
• Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
• Maintain comprehensive clinical records using the prisons electronic health record system.
• Take part in clinical governance activities and support continuous quality improvement.
