Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking two Design Engineers to design and deliver local infrastructure projects across Cambridgeshire. You will lead designs from ideas through to construction-ready solutions in highways, bridges, rights of way and other local infrastructure.

You’ll work with communities, members and partners, develop designs within scopes and budgets, and mentor colleagues while embedding CDM 2015 and safety throughout the process.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or related subject, or equivalent experience.
• Professional membership, or to be working towards membership.
• Experience in the development, planning and design of transport infrastructure.
• Knowledge of highway design requirements and CDM 2015.
• Experience producing detailed construction drawings for tender.
• Ability to manage programmes, budgets and project risks.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-engineers.

• Lead the design of infrastructure projects, taking responsibility for planning, design, programme, budget and risk.
• Work across highway design disciplines, building experience and technical capability.
• Turn engineering challenges into practical, deliverable solutions.
• Influence projects from optioneering through to construction-ready design.
• Champion value and lower-carbon solutions with social, environmental and financial benefits.
• Work with communities, elected members, businesses, landowners and partners.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and foster a culture of constructive challenge.
