Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking two Design Engineers to join our Infrastructure and Project Delivery service to develop and deliver local infrastructure projects across Cambridgeshire.

You will lead medium-complexity projects, develop designs within scopes, budgets and programmes, and ensure CDM 2015 and health and safety requirements are embedded. You’ll collaborate with consultants, contractors and external partners to deliver practical, constructible designs.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject, or equivalent experience.
• Professional membership, or working towards membership.
• Experience in development, planning and design of transport infrastructure or related projects.
• Knowledge of highway design requirements and CDM 2015, including responsibilities of Designers and Principal Designers.
• Experience producing detailed construction drawings for tender.
• Ability to manage programmes, budgets and project risks.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of infrastructure projects, taking responsibility for planning, design, programme, budget and risk.
• Work across highway design disciplines to broaden technical capability.
• Turn engineering challenges into practical, deliverable solutions.
• Influence projects from optioneering through to construction-ready design.
