Job summary

The University of Sheffield AMRC is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Integrated Manufacturing Group on a hybrid, full-time fixed-term basis. You will work on projects addressing IIoT and Digital Thread, delivering improvements to manufacturing processes while collaborating across disciplines to solve complex technical challenges.

Qualifications

• Good honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent industrial experience.
• Ability to work independently under guidance of senior colleagues within a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Experience solving complex IIoT problems.
• Knowledge of industrial connectivity protocols (MQTT, OPC UA).
• Familiar with Unix-like OS and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Willingness to explore new approaches to problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Deliver project tasks related to industrial connectivity with senior support.
• Conduct experiments and synthesize outputs for project reporting.
• Work to deadlines and manage own time and resources.
• Communicate work to peers in writing and verbally.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to plan workload and resources.
• Research novel technology to advance knowledge in IIoT.
• Adhere to AMRC quality and health and safety systems.
• Write technical engineering reports.
• Engage with conferences, trade shows and events to develop capabilities.
