Job Title: Integrated Delivery Team Lead - Technology Solutions

Location: Farnborough/Malvern

Role Purpose

The primary role of the IDT Leader, Technology Solutions, is to be the P&L business leader for the Technology Solutions IDT and to set the strategy to deliver profitable growth. They are required to act as a QinetiQ leader first and foremost, playing a full part in the prosecution of QinetiQ’s strategy and individual cross-cutting campaigns and initiatives.
The IDTL is the business leader for the P&L associated within the IDT and has responsibility with their peers on the Defence Mission Systems Leadership Team for areas such as Sales, Commercial, Delivery (P3M), Engineering, Operations and Finance performance.

Key to this role is leadership of:
• Development of a pipeline of new sensors & comms products and solutions to serve the Defence & national security markets
• UKI New Product Development (NPD) process owner
• Sensors & Communications product development – Bracer, Obsidian etc.
• PNT development and exploitation (via Q40 and other capabilities / solutions).
• StormForce2 manufacture and in-life obsolescence management etc.
• Support for Inzpire’s GECO development to ensure alignment with UKI NPD process
• Product Sales Team Leader; Q40 Sales lead plus 5 x Product Sales team
• Work closely with IDTL Major Projects to support the RGNS programme which is in their accountabilities, as it is key to develop Q40.

They will also direct the management and delivery of the Programmes, Projects and Portfolios (P3M), as well as undertaking specific programme management responsibilities within the business.


This is a critical role in a high growth and highly competitive market that requires strong and robust leadership with a high level of market understanding to deliver aggressive business targets while supporting employees through the change and development of the business utilising the right tools and capabilities and personal development support to ensure the business and our people thrive.


Key Accountabilities

• Providing inspirational leadership of the Technology Solutions business.
• Being a role model of QinetiQ behaviours and values within the wider QinetiQ leadership community.
• Leading the UK business across the Sensor & Comms Products and PNT markets delivering effective capabilities to win new business, grow the P&L and delight our customers.
• Build and mature a New Product Development capability to professionalise and industrialise product development across UKI.
• Support (but not accountable) for Inzpire’s GECO product development process to ensure it aligns with UKI NPD and allows the sharing of best practice etc.
• Responsible for manufacture and in-life obsolescence management of StormForce2
• Lead Product Sales Team including Q40 Senior Client Manager and 6 x Product Sales team
• Deepen strategic customer engagement in collaboration with the Business Development team. Leading the relationship with senior external stakeholders up to 2* level (and occasionally 3*), particularly current and potential customers.
• Delivering strong financial results (P&L) of the business including delivering significant sustainable growth improving both competitiveness and performance.
• Delivery and development of strategic growth objectives.
• Improve customer satisfaction through the effective delivery of programmes to time, quality and cost.
• Monitor, manage and report financial and operational risk in the business.
• Preparation, development and presentation of the annual business strategy and P&L budget.
• Approve commercial and financial commitments, including bid pricing up to £5m

• Security Awareness: UK MOD DV clearance is required

Key Performance Indicators

• Delivery of a coherent 5-year growth strategy aligned to UKI ISP
• Business performance delivery: Orders, Revenue, Profit, Cash for the Technology Solutions business
• Programme delivery performance to plan, supported by appropriate tools and processes
• Lead, manage and coordinate to deliver the business P3M portfolio against the business objectives, including delivery against time and budget
• Maintain and improve employee engagement (as measured through Peakon)
• Maintain and improve customer engagement (as measured through CSAT scores and direct feedback)
• Accurate work load forecasts for demand planning across the business
• Management of risks, issues and changes at the business level
• Collaborate with UK Defence on joint opportunities to deliver to the UK Defence & Technology Solutions market.
• Collaborate with US and Australian Sectors to deliver relevant products to market
