Job summary

Black Duck Software, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the identity, authentication, authorization, and access management platforms. You will drive architecture, design, and secure, scalable systems supporting customers and internal teams.

You will mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and guide AI-assisted development to improve productivity and software quality across multiple products and teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture and technical leadership responsibilities.
• Extensive IAM/CIAM design, implementation, and operations experience.
• Hands-on with modern identity platforms such as Auth0, Okta, Azure AD, Ping Identity or similar.
• Expert understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, MFA, federation, token-based security.
• Experience building identity solutions at scale for SaaS applications.
• Strong background in distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native apps.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture, security, and modern practices.
• Experience leading multi-team initiatives and influencing direction.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder alignment skills.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and how AI can improve engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and evolution of enterprise-scale identity and access management solutions.
• Serve as technical authority for authentication, authorization, federation, and identity lifecycle management.
• Design and implement secure, scalable systems supporting multiple products and teams.
• Provide architectural guidance across cross-functional initiatives.
• Drive engineering excellence through design/code reviews and mentoring.
• Partner with security, operations, product, and engineering to deliver reliable identity services.
• Lead investigations, evaluate technologies, and align solutions with business goals.
• Improve platform observability, performance, and maintainability.
• Influence long-term technology strategy and roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and managers across the organization.
• Promote AI-assisted development practices throughout the lifecycle.
