To initiate, manage and administer all aspects of identification functions required for evidential purposes in accordance with the statutory requirements under PACE. To act as a single point of contact, providing specialist advice and guidance in this area of business.

Main Responsibilities

To make arrangements for and carry out the required identification procedures

in accordance with legislation.

Liaising with PACE inspector, witnesses, solicitors, justice colleagues and officers.

Identifying, arranging and setting up suitable venues, compiling requisite material and managing identification procedures.

To build still and moving image identification parades through the use of purpose built software. To access and use other sources of images and date to facilitate in the preparation of identification procedures, such as Athena.

Complete administrative procedures including but not limited to completion of personal and witness statements, dealing with property, maintaining an ID calendar shared with management, emails and communication with officers.

Present evidence in court and at other hearings as and when required.

To provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues, including covering for abstraction and training of staff to enable image capture.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post as required.

Special Conditions

  • The ability to travel to varying locations across the police area, but particularly both Nuneaton and Leamington custody ID suites.
  • Weekend working where required.
  • Casual Car User.
  • Flexible working shift pattern.
  • To work primarily out of a designated and assigned police station equipped with the identification suite, remaining visible and accessible to offices of all departments.

Person Specification

Knowledge:

  • 5 GCSE Level A-C (or equivalent)
  • Possess a knowledge of law and legislation in relation to identification procedures in accordance with PACE.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the techniques and specialised equipment used and ability to capture and train quality image captures using photographic equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic photographic and filming techniques using digital solutions. Ability in still and moving image capture, software editing and output.
  • Ability to write and prepare written documentation to a standard required for case files and court.

Experience

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, but with requirement to engage and report to line management.
  • Experience and understanding around investigations and what constitutes quality evidence, including data handling, property management, statement writing and other administrative tasks.

Key Skills

  • Possess a current full driving licence.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to present in court or within a formal hearing setting.
  • Competent in the use of IT and Windows – i.e email, word, basic image software.
  • Ability to operate photographic equipment including video cameras, still cameras, basic light set ups, video and still image editing software
