Edwards Vacuum in Bristol is offering a one-year Year in Industry placement to turn your studies into real-world experience. You will work with experienced colleagues on meaningful projects, gain hands-on experience, and develop professional and technical skills.

Qualifications

  • The ideal placement student will design, build and operate experiments in an experimental lab.
  • You will collect data, analyse, write-up and report results of your experiments.
  • You will be consistently supported by more experienced staff.
  • You must follow and participate in safety documentation and procedures relevant to their experimental work.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an industrial lab environment observing Edwards EHS rules and guidelines.
  • Analytical chemistry tasks including instillation of test gases, leak checking, data analysis with FTIR, mass spec, and electrochemical cells.
  • Contribute to innovative technology development or product improvement; carry out risk assessments on prototype equipment and operate lab test rigs safely.
  • Collect accurate data and write detailed reports; present results clearly and concisely.

Main Responsibilities
  • The role requires an ability to work in an industrial lab environment and observe Edwards EHS rules and guidelines.
  • Analytical chemistry skills including; instillation of test gases, leak checking of test equipment, analysis of gases using equipment including FTIR, mass spec, electrochemical cells, analysis and write up of data.
  • Ability to contribute to innovative technology development or product improvement. Carry out risk assessments on prototype equipment or lab test rigs and to operate them safely. Ability to interact with other members of the team.

  • You will need to be confident in discussing process, chemical and abatement issues within the team and when needed to other teams, you must be able to use available resources on site to perform basic analysis of flow conditions and abatement performance.
  • You are expected to be mechanically adept, being able to upgrade and modify systems when setting up experimental conditions.
  • You are expected to follow and participate in the writing of the relevant safety documentation and procedures relevant to their experimental work.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work as an individual in a safe and efficient way.
