Overview of role

The Core Systems Engineer (iSeries) provides technical delivery and support for the iSeries platform, supporting applications and services for both customers and colleagues of Love2shop. They develop fit-for-purpose solutions and maintain the availability and performance of current production systems. The iSeries Engineer is technically adept in their technology area, responsible for elements of technical delivery both individually and as part of a wider team, and provides second-line support for iSeries application services.

Key responsibilities
  • Be the technical expert in RPG application delivery on the iSeries platform.
  • Identify and communicate the technical application requirements.
  • Ensure high-quality, value-for-money solutions by delivering build/unit tests to Love2shop standards.
  • Provide second-line support and incident fix expertise, following ITIL principles and maintaining effective change control processes, including out-of-hours support on a rota basis.
  • Support team leads in identifying areas for technical innovation and improvement, define their costs, benefits, and strategies for implementation.
  • Create and document test procedures and scenarios for the unit testing phase of change delivery.
  • Support in resolving technical issues during SIT, UAT, and rollout phases of assigned changes.
  • Communicate effectively, actively challenge estimates and solutions, and offer alternatives where applicable.
  • Provide clear and concise escalation to Project Managers and Service Leads when required.
  • Identify project risks and present options and recommendations to mitigate them.
What we would like from you
  • A minimum of 5 years RPG delivery experience.
  • Strong experience in the timely delivery of quality software changes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and prioritization skills.
  • Understanding of iSeries platforms, integration with other technologies and systems (IBM Websphere knowledge essential).
  • The ability to read technical code and conceptualize and document it as an overall process.
  • Experience and knowledge of system analysis in a structured environment.
