Job description

Purpose of the role

To define, direct, and govern the bank’s target data architecture (including shared data environment, data model, and standards) to support business strategy, ensuring data is accurate, secure, and accessible to meet stakeholder needs.

Accountabilities

  • Develop the bank's data architecture strategy, translating bank-wide goals into a target data architecture and transition plan.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data operations, engineers, and analysts, to provide expertise and promote standardised, consistent, and secure data usage.
  • Develop and maintain data architecture governance, standards, and protection policies to support data quality, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Align projects with the target data architecture through guidance, data solutions, and progress monitoring.
  • Define shared reusable data capabilities, assets, tools, and technologies for connecting data sources, optimising storage, and seamless access.
  • Manage the overarching data model that structures data within physical resources like databases, interfaces, and reports.
  • Monitor regulatory standards and industry developments for potential impact on operations and controls.
  • Assess and select data technologies, ensuring compliance with service level agreements and quality standards.

Director Expectations

  • Lead a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, policies, and managing multiple complex projects.
  • Manage a large team or sub-function, embedding a performance culture, or lead organisation-wide projects as a technical expert.
  • Advise senior management and committees to influence decisions and strategic directions.
  • Oversee resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and monitor external environment and industry developments.
  • Provide expertise to align function with overall business objectives, staying updated on industry practices.
  • Use analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make strategic decisions within their area, influence stakeholders, and act as principal contact for key clients.
  • Represent the function as a spokesperson and demonstrate leadership behaviours aligned with Barclays values and principles.
