Job summary

The IFRS Foundation is seeking a Technical Staff member for the IASB financial instruments team in London. The role focuses on leading research, stakeholder engagement and drafting in relation to IFRS 9, IAS 32 and IFRS 17, including post-implementation review work.

Candidates should be qualified accountants with strong technical IFRS experience and the ability to provide strategic project direction while managing diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with strong technical and practical experience applying IFRS standards to complex financial instruments and/or insurance contracts.
• Proven track record applying IFRS 9, IAS 32 and/or IFRS 17 to determine accounting for complex transactions.
• Ability to develop technical proposals, document due process and engage with diverse stakeholders.

• Lead and support IASB financial instruments projects, including post-implementation review of IFRS 17.
• Oversight of technical proposals and evidence-based research for IASB decisions.
• Prepare, review and draft papers and due process documents for internal/external use.
• Represent the IASB with external stakeholders across industry and standard-setting communities.

Job description

Job Purpose:

To lead and support the IASB’s financial instruments-related projects, including the upcoming post-implementation review of IFRS 17. This will include, but are not limited to, conducting research and analysis on relevant technical accounting issues, engaging with stakeholders, and drafting due process documents.

The team:

The IASB Technical Staff role sits within our Financial Instruments technical staff team.

Principal accountabilities:

• Contribute to, and oversee where relevant, the development of technical proposals for consideration by the IASB and facilitate the IASB’s decision-making through evidenced-based research, internal and external consultation and drafting of papers and due process documents.
• Provide strategic direction to projects and identify and manage political issues and risks. Consider implications of the work of the ISSB, as appropriate.
• Prepare and/or review a range of documents and communications for internal and external use.
• Act as a credible and authoritative representative of the IASB by consulting with a wide range of external stakeholders from industry and the accounting, investment, regulatory and standard-setting communities, to ascertain their views and to share information.
• Provide general project support to senior staff and the IASB.
• Contribute to the development and coaching of other staff
• Manage relevant committees and working groups.
• Manage technical project administrative matters

Qualifications & experience

Qualified accountant with strong technical and practical experience in applying IFRS Accounting Standards in accounting for complex financial instruments and/or insurance contracts.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of applying IFRS 9, IAS 32 and/or IFRS 17 to determine the appropriate accounting for complex transactions or instruments in the financial services industry.
