Job Overview
The IT Communications Engineer is a member of the Digital Operations team within the NCA and will contribute to the seamless operation of healthcare facilities by supporting the UC, voice and data infrastructures essential for communication and collaboration. You are also expected to be skilled and experienced in advanced technologies to support and maintain all operational activities of the network environment. The core technologies being: UC, Contact Centre, WAN, LAN, Security & Wi-Fi.

The post holder will report to the Team Manager for Networks and I.T. Communications and collaborate directly with other members within the team and wider digital operations services.

Responsibilities

  • The primary requirement is to focus on the day-to-day BAU UC, voice and data network infrastructures.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned tickets within the IT service management system in line with service level agreements and escalating any breaches.
  • Installation, configuration and support of infrastructure equipment.
  • Support capacity planning, ensuring sufficient resources exist to maintain access to systems in a highly available state.
  • Good technical knowledge within the Trust's IT Infrastructure with expertise within at least two of the areas listed:
  • Unified Communications
  • Voice communication systems
  • Local and Wide Area Networking
  • Wireless LAN infrastructure
  • Cyber Security (NAC and firewalls)
  • Data cabling
  • Managing infrastructure updates and upgrades with minimal impact.
  • Work closely with the Cyber security teams to deal with security related incidents.
  • Participate in regular on call rota.
  • Provide technical escalation point for other team members.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Relevant degree level or equivalent or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Network+, Cisco CCNA.
Desirable criteria
  • Vendor certification relating to networking, voice and security.
  • Relevant subject matter qualification (e.g. Cisco/VMWare/Microsoft) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • ITIL Foundation.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
  • Extensive Unified Communications Experience gained in an enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of using IT Service Management (ITSM) Systems.
  • Able to work within a team and have the knowledge and experience to work individually to resolve complex technical faults and issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Expert and detailed knowledge and experience in fault diagnosis and the repair of data & voice networks.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of working in a Healthcare IT environment.
  • Good knowledge and experience of using Cisco collaboration technologies.

  • Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences.
