Job summary

Hotel Chocolat is seeking a Hygiene Operative for a permanent night shift at Hadley Park, Huntingdon. You’ll join a fast-paced hygiene team ensuring cleaning aligns with food safety standards and quality controls.

The role involves carrying out cleaning tasks to schedule, safe chemical handling, and contributing to a clean, compliant production environment with a 10pm–6am shift.

Job description

As we continue our mission to make people and nature happy through reinventing chocolate, we’re looking for a Hygiene Operative to join our Hygiene Team on a permanent night shift basis. As a Hygiene Operative, you will be working within a dynamic and fast paced professional hygiene team, responsible for ensuring that all cleaning activities are completed consistently in line with required Food Safety, quality and compliance standards.

Shift Pattern: operating on a permanent night shift pattern of 10pm to 6am, Monday to Friday.

The onsite location for this role is at our Factory ‘Hadley Park’, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, right in the heart of where our chocolates are made and where weekly, we can produce between 4 to 6 million of the chocolates we all know and love. Hadley Park is just 5 minutes off the A141 and 1.3 miles from Huntingdon train station, with direct rail links to London King’s Cross.

What you’ll be doing…

• Complete all cleaning activities in line with documented cleaning procedures, following the correct methods every time to achieve the required hygiene standards.
• Deliver cleaning tasks to the required food safety, quality, and compliance standards, ensuring your assigned areas are maintained to a consistently high standard.
• Carry out the safe disassembly and reassembly of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and the training provided.
• Follow cleaning schedules and complete all assigned tasks as directed by the Hygiene Manager, Hygiene Team Manager, or Hygiene Senior Operative.
• Maintain high housekeeping and hygiene standards across all designated production and support areas.
• Comply with all site food safety, quality, technical, and hygiene procedures.
• Adhere to all Health & Safety policies, safe systems of work, and risk control measures.
• Handle, prepare, and use cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with COSHH requirements and site procedures.
• Report any hygiene, equipment, food safety, or Health & Safety concerns promptly to the appropriate manager.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments, maintaining a professional, respectful, and positive approach at all times.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the needs of the business, provided they are within your training and competence.

Who you are…

Essential

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Understanding of safe working practices and the ability to recognise and report unsafe conditions or behaviours.
• Ability to handle and use cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with training and site procedures.

Desirable

• Previous experience working as a Hygiene Operative or Production Operative within a food manufacturing environment.
• COSHH or chemical handling training.
• Food Safety Level 2 certification.
• Experience working to hygiene, food safety, and quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
