Job description

Night Hygiene Coordinator

FTC (9 to 12 months) with potential to become permanent

Full-time | On-site

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced hygiene and team leader to join a forward-thinking fresh produce business, taking ownership of night hygiene operations, standards, and team performance.

You'll play a pivotal role in shaping hygiene strategy, driving continuous improvement, and embedding a culture where food safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence sit at the heart of every decision. You'll lead and develop a high-performing night team while ensuring the business consistently delivers against hygiene, audit, and regulatory requirements.

Working cross-functionally with operations and technical teams, you'll provide hands-on leadership across hygiene management systems, deep-cleaning schedules, audits, and safety compliance, helping to drive operational excellence and site standards.

What you'll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, developing, and coaching a team of night hygiene operatives to drive engagement, accountability, and high performance

  • Creating a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and safety focus throughout the night operation

  • Delivering the site's hygiene schedules and cleaning standards, aligned with wider business objectives

  • Providing operational leadership for food safety, hygiene standards, compliance performance, and audit readiness

  • Ensuring hygiene management systems remain effective, efficient, and aligned with legal and certification requirements

  • Maintaining oversight of chemical safety, cleaning validations, deep-cleaning schedules, and environmental hygiene standards

  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating hygiene, technical, and safety risks across the facility

  • Leading governance activities and ensuring corrective and preventative actions from hygiene audits are effectively delivered

  • Maintaining industry-leading audit standards and supporting the successful delivery of customer and third-party hygiene audits

  • Leading the resolution of any hygiene concerns, swabbing failures, or compliance issues identified ahead of production shifts

  • Monitoring hygiene KPIs, cleaning effectiveness, and team performance measures

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance cleaning efficiency, chemical usage, and waste reduction

  • Using performance insight to support decision-making and identify areas for improvement in cleaning processes

  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, operations teams, and auditors

  • Championing the highest standards of food safety, health and safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility on site

What we're looking for

We're looking for a passionate and proactive hygiene leader who can combine strong technical awareness with proven people management skills. While experience in both hygiene and team leadership is preferred, we are also willing to explore candidates with relevant transferable skills in one of these areas. You'll be comfortable influencing stakeholders across the shift and creating a culture where hygiene is everyone's responsibility.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience within a hygiene, technical, or production function within the food, fresh produce, or fast-paced manufacturing sector

  • A strong understanding of food safety legislation, cleaning chemistry, and industry best practice

  • Familiarity with audit requirements and maintaining high hygiene standards

  • Experience leading, coaching, and motivating teams in a shift-based environment

  • The ability to analyse hygiene data and performance standards to drive informed decisions

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • A proactive, resilient mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and operational readiness
