Job summary

First Military Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Technician in Hungerford to support the build, test and commissioning of refuelling equipment. The role emphasizes low-volume manufacturing, working from P&IDs and detailed assembly documentation to assemble high-pressure systems.

You will install small bore tubing, mount instrumentation, and assist with pressure testing while maintaining strict safety standards for compressed gases. Ex-military candidates are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mechanical or Instrument Technician in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Experience assembling high pressure gas systems or similar process equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, GA drawings and mechanical schematics.
• Experience supporting pressure and functional testing.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical systems and sub assemblies in line with engineering drawings, P and IDs and build procedures
• Install small bore tubing systems including tube and thread and ferrule fittings
• Mount valves, regulators, pressure vessels and associated pipework
• Ensure correct torqueing, alignment and mechanical integrity of all assemblies
• Install and mechanically connect pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters and other field instruments
• Interpret P and IDs to ensure correct installation and routing
• Support loop checks and basic functional verification during test activities
• Identify discrepancies between drawings and physical build and raise issues clearly
• Assist with pressure testing, leak testing and functional system testing
• Record test data accurately and support fault finding activities
• Diagnose mechanical or installation related issues and implement corrective actions
• Complete build records, inspection reports and test documentation
• Maintain traceability of components where required
• Support quality inspections and audits
• Contribute to continuous improvement of build processes
• Work safely with high pressure hydrogen systems
• Follow procedures relating to pressure systems and hazardous areas
• Identify and report unsafe conditions
• Support compliance with relevant UK and EU standards
• Work closely with engineering, project management and operations
• Provide practical feedback to engineering based on build experience
• Support site installation or commissioning activities where required
