Job summary

SMD is seeking a hydraulics engineer to lead work packages and projects, ensuring technical specifications meet budgeted engineering hours and component costs. You will drive timely release of parts and drawings aligned with design plans, and provide technical assurance across projects and products.

You will support engineers, check releases, and collaborate with procurement to qualify suppliers. The role involves evaluating customer needs, estimating costs, and contributing to the development

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering and sound understanding of engineering principles.
• Strong experience in an engineering design role, preferably low volume/high value capital equipment.
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor.
• Competent in understanding and communicating about other non-mechanical elements of the design process (electrical, control, software and hydraulics).
• Experience with design schemes, design proposal drawings, detail drawings, GA's functional specs, and technical reports.

Job Description

As a hydraulics engineer you will lead the execution of work packages and projects within the engineering team. Ensure technical specifications are met within budget for both engineering hours and direct component costs. Deliver engineering excellence to internal and external customers. Focus on timely release of parts and drawings in line with project engineering design plans.

About The Role

About this role

As a hydraulics engineer you will be responsible for technical assurance of the projects and products including:

• BOM accuracy
• Design review recording
• FMEA and machine risk assessments carried out and recorded
• Appropriate calculations carried out and recorded
• Build information and documentation
• Operations and maintenance documentation

You will support the retention and development of hydraulic engineers within the team, thoroughly check engineering releases and provide technical support to procurement in the identification/qualification and verification of suppliers.

Assist with the development of future SMD Equipment products and provide support for delivered systems

Support the technical aspects of sales and bid activity, including the evaluation and interpretation of customer requirements, estimation of product and engineering cost, and supporting customer meetings and add value and contribute to the development of SMD’s equipment product range

Having an enthusiasm for engineering is a must in this role along with an understanding of commercial and financial principals. You will be a good team player with a positive and proactive approach to get the job the done with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Demonstrate sound anaylsis and judgement to investiate and interpret data, issues and situations, and weigh options in order to make sound technical and management decisions.
