Job summary

Newsquest’s Matrix Create team seeks a skilled Web Developer to design, build and support responsive websites across client projects. You’ll contribute from build to launch, balancing performance, accessibility and business goals in a collaborative digital team.

The role emphasizes front-end delivery, CMS integration, and problem solving within a hybrid Newport-based environment with two days on-site weekly.

Qualifications

• Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills with front-end development experience.
• Understanding of responsive design and accessibility standards.
• Experience with Craft CMS, WordPress or Shopify or similar.
• Ability to translate designs into accurate, responsive pages.
• Proficiency with version control, testing and troubleshooting.
• Excellent attention to detail and proactive problem solving.
• Good communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with Twig, PHP, templating and design collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain responsive websites, templates, layouts and components.
• Manage website content within CMS platforms.
• Translate designs and wireframes into functional pages.
• Test across browsers and devices to ensure quality.
• Address usability, accessibility, performance and presentation issues.
• Support launches, troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance.
• Collaborate with designers, SEO specialists and client teams.
• Follow standards, best practices and delivery processes.
• Contribute to documentation and continuous improvement.
