Job summary

MHA is seeking a Senior Payroll Associate in Cardiff with hybrid working after settling in. You will manage payroll and Auto Enrolment for a portfolio, ensuring timely, compliant processing and strong client liaison.

The role requires knowledge of payroll legislation, excellent communication with clients and HMRC, and experience in a busy payroll environment. Proficiency with Excel, Word and payroll software is preferred.

• Experience in a busy payroll environment or bureau.
• Excellent communication with clients and HMRC.
• Ability to work on own initiative while following procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Methodical and calm with problem-solving focus.
• Strong time-management and organisational skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt.
• Familiarity with Paycircle or Xero is ideal but not essential.
• Proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients, delivering payroll and Auto Enrolment services from start to finish.
• Ensure timely, accurate payroll processing within deadlines and compliance requirements.
• Schedule and gather payroll data efficiently to suit client needs.
• Liaise with clients, HMRC and pension providers on payroll/Auto Enrolment queries.
• Process payrolls in line with procedures and legislation.
• Submit client payroll data to BACS.
• Deliver compliant Auto Enrolment provision to clients and providers.
• Mentor junior payroll team members.
