Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers is seeking an SC cleared Assistant Safety Engineer for a Defence-focused contract based at MOD Abbeywood in Bristol, with hybrid working and 3–4 days onsite weekly.

The role supports safety requirements for Naval equipment, delivers technical safety documentation, and acts as a trusted adviser across design, testing, and compliance activities for a highly regulated defence environment.

Qualifications

• Holds a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics qualification (RQF 4+).
• Experience delivering safety systems in complex environments.
• Registered with EngTech or RSciTech or equivalent (RQF Level 6+).
• Familiar with safety legislation and safe management in regulated industries.
• Desirable naval/defence domain experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage technical safety requirements and documentation.
• Support Safety Management Systems and hazard/risk analyses.
• Provide expert safety advice during design, testing, and validation.
• Manage safety-related contractual activities and performance.
• Assist in decommissioning and disposal of equipment safely.
• Contribute to safety policy and process development for Defence standards.
