Job summary

i3 in Birmingham is seeking a Principal Functional Safety & Cyber Security Engineer to drive safety and security across the product lifecycle. You’ll work with Systems, Hardware and Software teams, reviewing designs and requirements to identify hazards and design controls that prevent failures while protecting data.

This senior, hands-on role requires applying ISO 26262 and ISO 21434, conducting HARA, FMEA and FMEDA analyses, and leading customer and supplier design reviews to ensure compliance

Qualifications

• Degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline with substantial safety/cyber experience.
• Experience applying ISO 26262 and ISO 21434 in product development.
• Ability to perform safety analyses (HARA, TARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA).

Responsibilities

• Deliver engineering activities within ISO 26262 and ISO 21434 frameworks.
• Develop and review functional safety and cyber security concepts.
• Perform safety and failure analyses including HARA, TARA, FMEA, FTA and DFA.
• Translate analysis findings into clear technical hardware and software requirements.
• Support hardware reliability studies, including FMEDA and fault metric calculations.
• Work with safety metrics including SPFM, LPF/LFM and PMHF.
• Collaborate across Systems, Hardware and Software engineering teams.
• Work closely with component engineers, suppliers and customers.
• Support customer design and functional safety reviews.
• Ensure engineering work products comply with relevant processes, legislation, regulations and standards.
• Delivering technical activities against agreed project milestones.
