Job summary

The New Forest District Council in Lyndhurst is seeking a Principal Development Management Officer on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2028. You will manage a portfolio of major and strategic planning applications and provide expert professional advice to drive high-quality development outcomes.

You will work closely with elected members, developers and communities, represent the Council at hearings, and contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Development Management Service.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in handling major and strategic planning applications.
• Ability to lead complex pre-application discussions and development proposals.
• Strong report-writing and presentation skills for Planning Committee.
• Experience representing the Council at inquiries and hearings.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of major and strategically important planning applications.
• Lead on complex pre-application discussions and development proposals.
• Exercise delegated authority on planning matters and enforcement cases.
• Prepare and present reports to Planning Committee.
• Represent the Council at inquiries, hearings, tribunals and public meetings.
• Provide professional guidance to colleagues and contribute to service development.
• Oversee financial and project management aspects of major developments, including contributions.
