Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking skilled Highways Engineers to join a dynamic team delivering improvements across the highway network. You’ll lead on maintenance and resurfacing schemes, from reconstruction and inlays to preventative treatments that extend road life.

You’ll work with inspectors, contractors and local stakeholders to respond to defects, ensure safe delivery, and maintain high standards. The role supports drainage improvements and data-led asset management.

Qualifications

• Experience in design, specification and construction of highway infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of statutory procedures for highway improvements.
• Experience delivering highway maintenance or resurfacing schemes on time and to budget.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver highway infrastructure schemes in line with national standards and council policies.
• Assist Senior Engineers in managing and delivering highway improvement projects.
• Assess feasibility, costing, project management and implementation of engineering schemes.
• Analyse road traffic accident data to identify and develop Local Safety Schemes.
• Prepare technical briefs and manage external consultants where required.
