Job summary

Britain’s Leading Engineers in London seeks a graduate structural engineer or above for a freelance role. The position involves surveying period properties, sizing foundations, and preparing calculation packages for Building Control.

You will work across residential and commercial projects, with three to five site visits weekly and travel expenses paid separately. You’ll join a multidisciplinary team, reviewing work with a senior engineer and coordinating with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in structural or civil engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong written and spoken English with clear report writing.

Responsibilities

• Survey period properties and trace structural load paths.
• Identify construction types including timber, brick, blockwork.
• Inspect and record cracks, defects, and other issues affecting a building.
• Prepare AutoCAD drawings with existing and proposed layouts.
• Design structural elements in steel and timber; size foundations and prepare calculation packages for Building Control.
• Write clear structural reports and technical documents from site findings.
• Communicate with clients, architects and contractors; oversee construction teams.
